Increasingly, thermal-conscious renovators and homeoweners are asking Roofrite to quote their metal reroof using Colorbond Coolmax.
Coolmax has excellent thermal properties and, according to Bluescope, could help reduce your annual energy cooling costs by up to 7.5% compared to, say, a Colorbond steel roof in Surfmist.
This single fronted house in Northcote still had its original metal roof with no insulation. The acrylic dome skylight in the hall was not letting in a great deal of daylight. Rusted guttering completed our site inspection.
A metal reroof in Northcote on a typical single fronted house such as this would normally take 4 to 6 days depending on access. This property had poor access that meant all the removed material had to be carried out by hand and all the new material carried in by hand. Pricing on a project such as this would lie in the vicinity of $18,000 – $25,000. Of course, the price depends on access and material selection.
Colorbond Coolmax comes in one color only: Whitehaven.
Roofrite’s quote in this instance was to replace the existing pitched and rear skillion metal roofs with .48 gauge Colorbond Coolmax laid over sizalation foil with R4 Glasswool insulation batts. The associated flashings and cappings were quoted in Colorbond Surfmist – the closest match to Whitehaven. The bullnose verandah replacement was quoted with Colorbond Surfmist and a Whirlie Ventilator in Surfmist was also included. The acrylic dome was to be replaced with a non-opening, flat roof Velux Skylight (FCM 2234). New Quad guttering and 3 new colorbond downpipes completed the quoted work. Scaffold was required to meet OH&S Worksafe safe work requirements.
Our client was delighted with the result as can be seen from her comments below.

I can’t recommend the team at RoofRite highly enough. From my very first contact, I knew I was in safe hands: Paula who runs the administrative side of things went out of her way to answer all my questions, even organising an elusive colour sample to be posted to my home. In spite of very short notice, a tight deadline and days of wet windy weather, RoofRite lived up to their promise and installed my roof on time. The hard-working team couldn’t have been more pleasant and professional and Kim and Paula were in regular contact keeping me updated and making sure I didn’t have any concerns. On final inspection, Kim insisted on replacing a downpipe with a slight dent and polished up my new skylight. It is this attention to detail and nothing-is-too-much-trouble attitude that makes RoofRite a standout.
